Immunity boosting practices in Ayurveda during COVID-19
Following the Covid-19 outbreak, entire people around the world are suffering.
The body’s natural defense system (immunity) plays a significant function in maintaining optimum health. We all are aware that prevention is more effective than treatment. Although there is no cure for COVID-19 is currently in effect it is advisable to adopt preventive measures to will boost our the need for protection in these days.
Ayurveda is the science of living, is a way to spread the benefits of nature in keeping healthy and happy living. Ayurveda’s vast knowledge base on preventive care, derived from the ideas of “Dinacharya” daily routines and “Ritucharya” Seasonal routines to keep a the health of your body. It is an interdisciplinary science based on plants. It is a plant-based science. The ease of recognizing oneself and the harmony an person can attain by strengthening and maintaining the immune system of the person is one of the primary goals of the Ayurvedic immunity boosting practises in classical texts.
Ministry of AYUSH recommends the following self-care guidelines to preventive health measures and strengthening immunity, with particular reference to respiratory health. These are backed up by Ayurvedic literature and scientific papers.
Recommended Immunity Boosting Practises:
I. General Measures
Drink plenty of warm water throughout the day.
Regular practice of Yogasana, Pranayama and meditation for at least 30 minutes, as directed by the ministry of AYUSH (#YOGAatHome #StayHome #StaySafe)
Spices such as Haldi (Turmeric), Jeera (Cumin), Dhaniya (Coriander) and
Lahsun (Garlic) are suggested when cooking.
II. Ayurvedic Immunity Boosting Measures to Promote Immunity
Consume Chyavanprash 10,gm (1tsp) early in the day. Diabetics shouldnt consume sugar. No cost Chyavanprash.
Drink tea or decoction made from herbal tea (Kadha) created from Tulsi (Basil) or Dalchini (Cinnamon), Kalimirch (Black pepper), Shunthi (Dry Ginger) and Munakka (Raisin) twice daily. Include once or twice a day, Add jaggery (natural sugar) and/or fresh lemon juice to suit your needs If you feel it is needed.
Golden Milk – Half tea teaspoon Haldi (turmeric) powder in 150ml hot milk at least once or twice per day, with a pinch of pepper and ½ tsp ghee.
III. Simple Ayurvedic Methods
Nasal application Apply sesame oil, Anu tailam or Ghee on both sides of the nostrils (Pratimarsh Nasya) in the morning and in the evening.
Therapy for pulling oil- Take 1 Tablespoon sesame or coconut oil into your mouth. Don’t drink, hold it in the mouth for about 2-3 minutes, then spit, and then warm water rinse. It can be done every day, or at least once.
IV. During dry cough / sore throat
Steam inhalation using fresh Pudina (Mint) leaves, or Ajwain (Caraway seeds) It is possible to practice once a day.
The Lavang (Clove) powder blended with natural sugar and honey is a good combination to take 2-3 times a day, every day to prevent the development of throat irritation or cough.
