Modern medicine has many parallels to this approach. Vata principle (wind), which governs communication and movement of the body, deals with the nervous system, joints and the elimination of waste. The colon is its main seat. Pitta (fire), refers to the metabolic processes within the body. It is responsible for the digestive system (enzymes) and the endocrine (hormone) system. Pitta’s main organs are the liver, small intestine and duodenum. Kapha (earth), on the other hand, is responsible for the structure of the body, which includes 7 bodily tissues, bones, and muscles.

These 5 elements are also used to determine the tastes and properties of foods and herbs. Ayurveda uses an organoleptic approach for matter. This means it classes the properties of matter using human sense organs. They are difficult to detect by instrumented analytical methods or exact measuring instruments. We know the taste and properties of matter. Then we can also determine its function or pharmacological actions. This knowledge can also be used to inform ayurvedic cooking techniques.

Prakriti is your Ayurvedic Constitution

Prakriti refers to your constitution, or natural state at conception. It is made up of three energy principals called Doshas. Prakriti is constant throughout life. Prakriti cannot inherently cause disease. However, it can make people more susceptible to certain conditions. The first step in traditional Ayurvedic treatments as applied in India is Prakriti assessment. This is because it determines what a person’s “normal” is.

Prakriti is commonly known as “Dosha”, and you may be asked the question “What’s your Dosha?” To be precise, everyone has all three Doshas. Pitta Dosha

Vata traits like dryness or cold can have a negative impact on joint health. You can learn to be aware of these qualities as a Vata person from childhood. Balance them by hydrating, oily diet, self-massages regularly, and warm food.

2. To maximize nutrition, digestion, and absorption, eat according to a healthy diet

Ayurveda categorizes food based on their elemental compositions into Shadrasa. These six tastes are appropriate in different amounts for various Prakriti types. You can have all tastes for a balanced diet. However, you may find it beneficial to choose certain tastes for different times of year or for your Prakriti. You can choose from sweet, salty and bitter tastes, as well as astringent, pungent, and astringent tastes.
